What's on the Theory Placement Test?
1. Rhythm and Meter
a. Rhythmic values from sixteenth note to whole note, including dotted values and rests.
b. Simple and compound meters.
c. Provide a note that equals the sum of a series of ties notes.
d. Choose from among a series of durations to complete the given measure.
2. Keys and Scales
a. The order of flats and order of sharps in a key signature.
b. The number of sharps or flats in each major and minor key.
c. Identify a given major or minor key signature.
d. Match relative major and minor keys.
e. Distinguish among major, natural minor, harmonic minor, and and melodic minor scales.
f. Identify parallel and relative minor of a given major key.
g. Identify parallel and relative major of a given minor key.
a. Identify intervals by number (2, 3, 4, 5, etc.).
b. Identify intervals by quality (Major, minor, perfect, augmented, diminished).
c. All intervals are simple (one octave and smaller).
